The Olympic Description

This competition is quite different with the other competition fields in The 2011 SEO. In this competition the participants will make an English Short Movie. Why we call it as an English Short Movie, is because the participants have to make a short movie with aspects of English in their movie. The aspects of English can be an English dictions, English conversation, or any other elses, depend on your own creativity. This competition will challenge how creative the participants to input aspects of English in their movie and to make a great art work of a movie as well. The theme of this Short Movie Making Competition itself is "One Dream". One dream is explaining about a journey when the character of the story has to face many boundaries and obstacles in the real life in order to make the dream comes true. The participants will be encouraged to make short movie that will inspire people who watch it. The participants will make a short movie along the time before the competition and submit it at the day of competition. This competition also will challenge your creativity to make that dream and present it in your own movie for the South East Asia.

The System of Judging

(System and Format might be subject to adjustments with the judges, number of participation, committee and other factors. The essence of every competition will remain the same. We will update the adjustments on our website whenever they are confirmed. We will also inform these on the technical meeting on Monday, February 14th 2011.)

The participants have to make the movie along the time before the competiton day. One representative person of each team must come to The 2011 SEO and submitted the movie in cd/dvd at the technical meeting. These are the explanation about the movie that you have to make.

Movie requirements:

  1. This is a group competition. Individual proposal is not allowed (The making of the movie is a team work, but on the actual day of competition, the team send only one representative to become the ambassador of the movie whose task is to introduce, present and promote the movie to the judges and audiences)
  2. This competition is only open for high school (year 10, 11, 12) and university institutions
  3. Made by team from your own institution. One team consists of maximum 5 persons
  4. Each institution is allowed to register at maximum 2 teams
  5. The maximum number of registrant in this competition is 50 teams
  6. The movie must be original from your own idea and never published before
  7. The theme of The 2011 SEO short movie competition is "One Dream"
  8. As this is English Competition, so you have to input some aspects of English in your movie
  9. There should be no element of pornography and violence
  10. Each team is only allowed to make one movie
  11. The movie must be in MPEG-4 compression method, HD 720p resolution, and burned into a cd/dvd and submitted at the technical meeting of the 2011 SEO. More info about MPEG-4 and HD 720p please click on the link below:

  12. The participants have to put the iBox logo on the top right corner of the movie as watermark. Use the black coloured logo if the movie's background is white and white coloured logo if the movie's background is black. Click on the link below to download the iBox logo

  13. The duration of the movie is 3.5 - 5 minutes
  14. Participants have to show their institution name, country, flag, and movie's title at the first 5 second of the movie
  15. You are allowed to use any camera to shoot video, any application to edit or add effect to the movie, and add any music to the movie
  16. All videos that are competed will be archived as BNEC property and BNEC have the right to make changes to the movies

There will be two sessions of this short movie making competition:

  1. Preliminary Round (15/Feb/2011 - 16/Feb/ 2011)
    In this qualifying round, the judges will watch the movie first. After that, the participants must give a presentation in front of the judges about the movie, how to make the movie, the background of the movie, uniqueness of the movie, and other things about the movie that you want to tell them in maximum 5 Minutes. The presentation must be in English and do it verbally without using any presentation file such as .ppt, .pptx, etc. The presentation became one of the judging criteria. After each group presentation, participants will have a personal assessment and question by each judge. At the end of round 1, the judges will decide which four teams will go to the final round.
  2. Final round (18/Feb/2011)
    This final round will use the voting system. There will be two sessions of this round. The first session is all participants will give presentation in front of invited guests and they will watch the movies. After that they will give vote for the movie that they like. The second session is the participants will seek vote from others The 2011 SEO participants. There will be an area and the finalist's movies will be played all the day so all people can watch it. At this sessions the four finalists will have their own booth at the same area and the finalists must bring their own laptop to play their movies. The participants must campaign their movie and seek vote for video from the other participants. Voter from the same institution is not allowed. The majority voting result will become the most favourite movie champion. The voting result will not included into the judging criteria for the 1st winner, 1st runner up, and 2nd runner.
